Holidays in the City: Winter Wonderland

WOOHOO I’m officially on winter break! Phew…that was a long semester. I’m so happy I get to be home for a couple of weeks and experience the winter wonderland that the city becomes during the holiday season, despite the unusually warm weather this year. Though no matter the weather, once I see all the trees wrapped in fairy lights my mood is instantly lifted!

After sleeping for about 14 hours once I got home I was ready to roam the city.
The Swarovski Star hanging above 5th avenue was one of the first things on my list! It was just as bright and beautiful as I remembered it from last year. Plus having the Tiffany’s building glowing in the background was a big bonus!

Two of my favorite traditions are window shopping along 5th Avenue with my mom and shopping at Bloomingdales the day after Christmas with my grandmamma! Remember, when admiring the holiday window displays around the city, if you don’t have time to view alllllll of them (there are A LOT), stick to the three B’s: Bareneys, Bergdorf Goodman, and Bloomingdale’s! The window displays are always out of the world.

This year Barneys went above and beyond all other holiday window displays and converted three of their windows into actual freezers with two of them holiday real ice castles and the third held carved ice animals with professional ice carvers working on them in the window—full of penguins and Santa’s!

However, if you’re looking for the sparkles and pizazz that define the holiday season, head on over to Bergdorf Goodman’s! There each window is its own world, you can walk from an undersea sparkly mermaid scene over to a psychics reading room with a wheel of fortune
Last but not least, Bloomingdale’s! While personally I would say their window displays have gone a bit down ill in the past years, turning more digital, the real treasures are inside when you look up! The ceilings are adorned with huge ornaments hanging from the ceiling that resemble disco balls, sparkling beads and stars, and just an overall festive atmosphere that’s infectious.
Do you have a favorite holiday window display? Have you ever been to New York City in the winter? Let me know!
